A: Join our monthly Art in a Box newsletter for latest info, artist exhibits, and more!
Q: Do I get to keep the art?
A: YES! Everything you receive you get to keep.
Q: How big is the work?
A: All work must fit within a 11″ x 17″ x 3″ box.
Q: Do all subscribers receive the same thing?
A: No, not all subscribers receive the same work. Most likely, you will receive a different piece of work by a different artist each month.
Q: Can pick a particular artist/piece/medium?
A: No, you can’t pick an artist. No, you can’t pick a particular piece. Yes, you can tell us what mediums you prefer. We try our best to accommodate subscriber preferences in mediums. You can choose from painting, printmaking, photography, mixed media, watercolor, drawing, collage, ceramic, and sculpture. Just send us an email after your payment and let us know what mediums you like or dislike.
Q: What is the difference between the Supporter ($30/month) and Collector ($50/month) subscriptions?
A: It’s simple. The Supporter subscription is pick up only. You pick up your box on the second weekend of each month at The Compound Gallery in Oakland, CA. If you can’t make that weekend, we will hold your box for you and you may pick it up anytime during our regular hours (Thursday-Sunday 12-6pm). The Collector subscription includes shipping and a bonus piece every three months of your subscription. There is NO difference in the quality of work.
Q: What if I don’t like my piece?
A: Art is subjective and although we believe that all the artwork we send out is great, we don’t expect everyone to like everything they receive. Even if you do not like something, the amount of money spent on Art in a Box is so minimal, your subscription will be well worth your money spent. We will also be having exclusive subscriber events at The Compound Gallery in Oakland that include trading pieces with other subscribers.
Q: How many months do I have to subscribe?
A: You must subscribe a minimum of three months, but you can subscribe to as many months as you like up to a year. Subscriptions are paid in full, not in installments.
Q: What if I live far away from Oakland, CA?
A: No problem. Our Collector subscription ($50 a month) includes shipping for all states in the U.S.A. No additional cost for Canadian orders. For all other international orders (outside of Canada) an additional $10-$15 (USD) will be added for each month of your subscription. Please contact us for details.
Q: Can you ship my subscription to me even if I live close?
A: Yes, if you subscribe as a Collector ($50 a month)
Q: Where do I pick up my Art in a Box if I don’t want shipping and what if I forget to pick up my box?
A: You can subscribe as a supporter for $30 a month and pick up your Art in a Box on the second weekend of each month at The Compound Gallery in Oakland, CA during normal business hours (Thur-Sun 12-6pm). The address is 6604 San Pablo Ave, Oakland, CA 94608. We send email reminders and hold boxes until you are able to pick up your box.
Q: Can I give Art in a Box as a gift?
A: Yes! In fact, Art in a Box makes a wonderful gift for anniversaries, weddings, birthdays, housewarming gifts, etc. Just let us know that you are subscribing for someone in the notes/comments section during checkout or send us an email afterward checkout (Send us an email at: info@thecompoundgallery.com) and we will send a lovely gift card that lets your loved one know he/she will be receiving Art in a Box. You can choose pick up (Supporter $30/month) or delivery (Collector $50/month).
Q: Can I start my subscription at any time?
A: Yes, you may begin your subscription at anytime. All boxes go out on the second weekend of each month. Your first box will be ready whenever the second weekend of the month arrives.
Q: Do I have to subscribe in successive months?
A: No. If you are going to be away or would like to skip a month, you may do so. You must let us know which months you would like to receive your Art in a Box when you subscribe.
Q: Do I have to pay tax?
A: Only if you reside in California. A tax of 9.75% will be added to your final purchase at checkout.
Q: I really like a specific Art in a Box artist. How can I get more pieces by him/her?
A: Easy. Just go to our Art Shoppe to directly buy art even without a subscription.
Q: This sounds like a great deal. Are there any more incentives?
A: We randomly choose boxes to receive small surprises each month. Your box could be next!
Q: How do I find out more about the Art in a Box Artists and special events for subscribers?
A: We send a monthly email newsletter that gives you all the exclusive scoop, featured artist exhibits, and such. Of course, you can always opt out if you do not want to receive the newsletter.
Q: My Art in a Box looks amazing in my space. Is there a way I can show it off?
A: Yes! Our page titled “The Experience” is exclusively for Art in a Box subscribers to post quotes, testimonials, and images of your Art in a Box art. Just send us a caption and image at info@thecompoundgallery.com and we will post it. You can also post and join our Flickr group titled “Art in a Box.”
Q: I ordered, but I haven’t heard from you. Should I expect a confirmation?
A: Yes. We send a confirmation email for all orders within 24 hours of purchase. Please check your spam folder in case our emails have landed there.
